Generic emails
Generic emails go directly into the school office – they usually have addresses that begin Info@ or Admin@
It is then possible to add to the subject line “Attn: Sports Co-ordinator” or any other title.
An alternative method can be to put a sales line in the subject line (“Free resources for your school”) and then start the message by saying,
Dear Administrator,
Please pass this email on to….
Generic emails have three key features:
- They are low price
- They get far lower response rates
- They are difficult to use if you want to develop a campaign, because schools will start blocking or deleting your emails after a few have come in.
Whereas the personal, preference and subscription email lists are only available from one or two sources, generic emails are available from a huge variety of sources. Indeed it is possible to buy a list of generic email addresses on a CD for as little as £50.
The problem is that such lists can have a range of problems within them. Most obviously they can be old (which means very inaccurate) and we have seen such products contain a variety of erroneous data such as personal email addresses (which would make them illegal to use)
Hamilton House supplies generic email lists, and they can have a real benefit – although we feel that this benefit is maximised when the lists are used in specific ways (such as for getting teachers to apply for free resources).
We have three key lists available:
| Schools with sixth forms |

It is possible to buy special selections of these lists, for example selecting by location, rather than taking the whole UK.
Such selections are charged extra, with the exact amount depending on the number of emails sent. Please call for details.
These prices include:
- Advice and review of how to write the advert for maximum effect
- Supply of the list
- Transmission of the email
- Placement of the advert on UK Education News (www.ukeducationnews.co.uk)
- Placement of the advert on one of the school advert sites (such as www.blog.schools.co.uk
- Tracking report
It is important that you should consider the implication of all these points – many lower price list offers do not include all of these. If we consider www.blog.schools.co.uk - this site (which contains only advertisement copy) gets over 30,000 visits a month from people who are searching for information on these specific topics.
