Football camps can be a PR opportunitySubstantial numbers of young people now attend sports training schools during the holidays – including half term holidays. Indeed football clubs of all shapes and sizes have been adopting the policy of half term holiday football camps in recent years and taking youngsters on. While encouraging a child to go on such a training programme during the half term break is normally a matter for parents, the fact that youngsters are doing this can be a good PR story. I have been keeping an eye on the activities in this regard of the club that I support and their programme has grown year on year. Indeed some of the bigger clubs now run programmes not only in their home city, but in many other towns too. My thinking is that if you find that one or two youngsters in your school have been training with one of the more famous clubs in the holiday, that in itself is worth a story in the local paper. If the parents are happy to go along with the idea (and they usually are) it is possible that the local media will be happy to interview parent and child, and for the printed media, slip a picture in as well. I would stress that courses are available across the UK for boys and girls, and it is well worth taking a look, and maybe even pointing out the opportunity to parents. And just in case you are an Arsenal supporter, their course details are on http://www.playthearsenalway.com/
